Bergen via Plan B
I got here to Bergen ok, but I had a scare right out of the chute. My first flight was cancelled because of mechanical problems and there was no other way to make it in time to my next flight out of DC to Copenhagen. I did a lot of scrambling on the cell phone and at the last minute did a sprint that looked like OJ Simpson on the old tv commercials jumping over airport seats. That was back when we kind of liked him. I was re-booked on US Air to Frankfurt and Lufthansa from there to Bergen. Today I am not a fan of United Airlines.
The landing in Bergen was beautiful, sunny and calm and I was looking out the window the whole approach.
I had lunch at the fish market in town, walked over to the ferry terminal, checked onboard and got my room. The ship just left the pier about 30 minutes ago; Norway is 6 hours ahead of the US east coast.
I haven't figured out how to log my laptop onto the ship's network yet, so the pictures I took today will have to wait till tomorrow. When you see the ferry, you'll see pretty clear that I'm not going to have to have it rough.
Thankfully my bag was a carry on, my underwear would still be in DC with me here in Norway. Now for a night's sleep, I didn't get much (any) on the planes.

Somehow I lost my nephew Mike's comment about bringing home some Norwegian wood. The website originally popped up here with German headings and I guess I clicked on the wrong one. Mike, it's on Rubber Soul, second side, last song.
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm glad you managed to rebook your flight. As you were running through the airport mom and I were on the couch saying something like "right now your father hasn't a care in the world..." Can't wait to see your first pictures!
ReplyDeleteI used up about all my cell phone battery trying to get re-booked. Today (5/16) we sail the Geringer Fiord and tomorrow all the passengers are invited to walk in the Norwegian Independence Day parade and eat ice cream in Trondheim.
ReplyDeleteDid you see "The Seven Sister's" waterfall? It's in the Geringer Fiord isn't it? And how was that parade? Did you get a flag for Independence Day?
