Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole

We started out today heading south, and the easiest way to go was around Yellowstone into Idaho. It was a pretty ride with great weather but the closer we came to Jackson Hole, the mountains started looking really high again. We rode around the back side of the Tetons and followed a pass up and through. The grade seemed steep (10%) and the car handled the upside really well; but I could feel the brakes starting to heat up on the downside, so I shifted out of automatic down into a lower gear just like a trucker. These mountain passes are all steep and would all be closed in winter snow.

We had lunch in Jackson Hole on the way to the Grand Tetons National Park. The biggest feature in the park is the mountain peaks but there is plenty of animal life too to look for as we drove the park loop. There was a new visitor's center with a high definition overview film. We spent a couple of hours in the park and went back into Jackson Hole to find a room for the night.

Jackson Hole is a busy place, it's touristy but not like Cody; it's like an upscale ski resort, only with cowboys.

The last 3 days we've been passing back and forth between Wyoming, Montana and Idaho all in the Yellowstone and Tetons area. Tomorrow we go north through the 3 states again to Glacier National Park which straddles the Canadian border. We'll drive up on the east side of the park and on probably on Thursday we'll take the popular road through to the west side.

The low temperture tonight in Jackson Hole is supposed to be 28 degrees.
